Thank you very much for considering holding your wedding at Barcaldine Castle. We would be delighted to welcome you and your guests to The Black Castle.
Our venue is ideally suited to small intimate wedding parties due to the relatively compact nature of the castle, our maximum capacity is 36 people including the Bride and Groom. You and your guests will receive exclusive use of our Castle, giving you the intimacy and privacy you need for your wedding day and preparations.
Our Great Hall is a perfect place for your ceremony, it has a large open fireplace and with its original stonework and wood paneling it provides the prefect ambience.
If you prefer to be at one with nature, and the weather permits, you may have your ceremony in our gardens. In any weather, it boasts a fantastic setting as The Castle itself benefits from breath taking views across Loch Creran and all the way up to Glen Coe. We have a stone sundial that many like to use to stand and make their vows. We do ask that you consider the lovely highland weather, and plan for an indoor wedding as well, just in case.
We have excellent relationships with the local Registrar and Celebrants, depending on the type of service you require. Communication with the Registrar needs to be done at least three months before the wedding date. Once your date is confirmed, we recommend you contact the Registrar straight away to secure your date. The ceremony time would normally be booked for around 1 or 2pm.
The bedrooms are furnished with luxury bed linen, offering a mini hospitality hamper, luxury toiletries, bathrobes, slippers and hairdryer. Each room benefits from period furniture and flat screen TV’s.
Due to the nature of the B&B business, we require a 2 night minimum stay exclusive use for all weddings from April to October and between 20th December and 5th January. This ensures your day runs smoothly and all of our attention is focused on making your day that extra bit special.
From November to March (excluding 20th December to 5th January) we can offer hire of the Great Hall for 2-3 hours for a wedding ceremony, photography and drinks/canapes reception for up to 36 guests. Rates from £700 to £1800. The castle can also be hired for exclusive use during this period but it is not a requirement.
6 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 guests:
2026 rates, (excluding Christmas and New Year)
October – April: £3800
May – September: £4150
2027 rates, (excluding Christmas & New Year):
October – April: £4000
May – September: £4400
Extras:
3 extra fold up beds available to sleep 15 – £90 per night
Baby cot – £30 per stay
Pets: *2 small dogs on own beds are allowed by arrangement from November-March only*
Wedding Facility Fee: 2026/7 – £165 per person (the facility fee is payable for all guests other than very small babies) for weddings of up to 20 guests and £150 per person for weddings with 21 to 36 guests.
Catering: Prices starting at £40 per head and your chef/caterer is booked separately.
The Castle is licensed and we have a small bar with champagne, wine, 6 whiskies, gin, vodka, white rum, beers and soft drinks. However for weddings we offer BYOB for wine and champagne only. Oban has Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Lidl and Aldi. We will supply the glasses, chilling facility and ice. This service is included as part of our facility fee.

You are most welcome to decorate the hall the evening before your wedding and we can set the table to your instructions on the day of your wedding.
Included in your facility fee, we will provide you with two large vases of flowers in keeping with your colour theme, all table cloths, napkins, crockery, glasses, cutlery and wedding furniture.

If you would like to go ahead, to secure your wedding date, we would require a 50% deposit for the accommodation. The remaining balance including the wedding facility fee is then due 14 days prior to your arrival.
