Local walking and cycling routes along breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful paths

• To South Shian Shore:

  Turn right out of the Main Castle Gates and then right again at the cross-roads.
  Continue along the country lane until you reach a group of 3 houses. Turn right into a small path leading towards the Loch. Continue bearing right which will take you for a nice walk along the shoreline, until you come to a gap in the fencing. Turn right towards the road and take the main path all the way up to the road. Turn right at the road and you will end up back at the Castle. (Approx 45 mins)

• To Isle of Eriska:

  A pleasant flat walk. Turn right out of the main gates and then straight over the crossroads. After about a mile on the right-hand side, you will come to the South Shian Nature Reserve.(Approx 2 hours)

• For a longer walk:

  Turn right out of the main gates and then left at the crossroads. Hawthorn Cottage Restaurant is 2 km. There is a right turn which takes you down a track to the sandy beach at Tralee.

• In Benderloch Village:

  In Benderloch village to the right of the garage you will find the Forestry Commission car park at the foot of Ben Lora. The walks are steep but the views are spectacular. (Approx 90 mins to viewpoint)

• Sutherland’s Grove:

  Slightly further north on the A828 just beyond Barcaldine village, turn into the Forestry Commission car park. There are four graded and waymarked walking and cycling trails.
